Motorcycle Trailer Wiring
As these trailers will only ever be towed by your motorcycle there is no need to use the current UK standard trailer plug/socket combination - which is very large and does not sit well on the back of a bike!
After much research we have decided to use a commonly available, robust environmentally sealed connector system well suited to the british weather!
This provides a petite 7 pin watertight plug and socket combination waterproof to IP68*. The socket and plug join with a firm push and the outer ring of the plug screws onto the body of the socket - compressing a rubber seal on the face of the socket and making the combination watertight.
Both plug and socket have their own caps to protect them whilst apart again rated IP68.
* IP68 means that it is watertight to a depth of 10 meters for 2 weeks or 100 meters depth for 12 hours. If you manage to get water inside one of these then you have some serious problems!

Both plug and socket have numbered screw fixings for connecting the cable internally.
If you already own a motorcycle trailer this would make an excellent upgrade to your existing plug / socket combination being both completely watertight and more petite than conventional trailer plug / sockets. These are all available separately or in kits in our online shop. (Click here)
The matching trailer cable is a six tinned steel cored cable designed to match the performance of the sockets and is also available by the meter in our online shop. (Click here)
On the bike we use Mini Universal Mate-N-Loc connectors to bring all the bike wiring to a single connector before then taking this to the rear socket. This means that the bike can be adapted ahead of fitting the tow socket and also the tow socket and frame are easily and quickly removable. Pin Wiring is numbered with the clip at the top of the pug:-
The order may seem a bit odd but it matches the order of the individual wires in the cable and makes for a very neat and compact connection.
Update - April 08
We are now looking at having wiring harnesses made for each bike. Just unplug the rear lights insert our small extension harness and plug back together. No cutting / joining / warranty problems. |
